"Great fun... once you get it to turn on." 2010-05-23
By Vincenzo999
Good Value. Great little show. Looks fantastic against my disco-ball.

However trying to get the thing working "was a bit like trying to get toothpaste back in the tube", very frustrating. I plugged it in and the LED light on top quickly flashed once and went out (what the heck). The machine was on and making a low humming sound, but no laser (very disappointing). The manual explains that there are dip switches on top, but does not explain which one or what combo needs to be flipped up to turn on the laser (who wrote that manual). I went to the manufacturer's web site and pulled up the product to see if I could get any clarification - (Ha! What was I thinking? No-way). I Googled the product as well and could not find any instructions. I knew that I was going to have to try all the switches separately and in all combinations (headache). Then I discovered that there are channel knobs as well! I had to add that into the test too. After a very frustrating hour of flipping this switch and turning that knob, I learned that when I have just switch #1 flipped up, or when I have switch #1 and #10 flipped up. I can slowly turn the channel knobs, one at a time, and the laser will finally turn on. I use this combo in both auto mode and sound mode and it runs through many different patterns. You can alter it a bit with the channel knobs. Use the Speed knob in auto mode. I am still trying to figure out the manual mode. I can only get 1 pattern in manual.

I am very pleased with the laser now that I learned how to turn the thing on. I even bought a bigger mirror ball to shine it on and it looks fantastic.

"Total ripoff. A black plastic box that hums -- but no laser" 2010-04-16
By Mark Alsip (Kentucky, USA)
Garbage. Total garbage. Looks like I'm the 2nd Amazon customer today who jumped on what looked like a great deal but turned out to be a cheap plastic box that makes a loud humming noise when plugged in. The feature list ends there -- the unit is not capable of producing a laser beam. After 30 minutes with a poorly written manual in hand, trying every possible combination of settings to choke a single beam of light from this thing, I gave up.

The worst shock of all came when I sat down at the computer to fill out a Return Authorization with Amazon to get my money back. SURPRISE!!! No refunds... "contact the manufacturer please, this item is subject to their return policies, not ours"

The only thing that could have possibly been worse than losing $90 on a horribly-made piece of plastic like this would have been spending the non-sale price of $270 for it -- which I almost did.

This is the 3rd American DJ laser product I've held in my hands, and of those 3, two have failed right out of the box. Never again. Never again...

"Too good to be true" 2010-04-14
By pambros (New York, USA)
I purchased this item from Musician's Friends a couple weeks ago. This type of equipment tends to be really expensive, but this one was under $90 bucks and it didn't take me long to find out why; Needless to say the one I got didn't work but that is beyond the point. Warranty is ridiculous, the manufacturer won't even stand by its product. The documentation (which by the way resembles cheap Chinese souvenirs manuals) has more paragraphs listing warranty exceptions than pages explaining the product. Getting customer support is wishful thinking. Bottom line is that if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!

"HAS TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED" 2009-10-22
By D. kahle (Jacksonville, Florida)
I am giving this 4 stars as of today, because i just received it and cannot vouch for it's long term performance. But if it is still working next year, I'll be giving it 10 stars. I took it out into my back yard and it lit up the entire back yard from grass to trees. it is amazingly powerful and really must be seen to be believed. Inside, it can be audio activated and fills the room with light. bottom line: at this price point, assuming it lasts for awhile, you can't go wrong.
