LED lights are the way to go for any mobile DJ. They do not get hot or have any duty cycle. I have two of these are they are great for creating ambiance as well as strobing dance lights. The newer Pro version have even larger diodes that are even brighter. This originally cost around $300 a piece but have dropped to about half that now.
They are also DMX controlled, so I HIGHLY recommend you use hardware or software to get the most out of all the lighting effects (6 channels). Highly recommended.

I bought two for a production and was very happy with their punch and color mixing ability. Also was a big hit in music mode for dance parties.
