I bought two of these and had to return both of them. First, the pedestal on which you mount the mirror ball differed from the item pictured on this site and appeared to be of lower quality. The one I received was lightweight plastic and the one pictured here appears to be metal and smaller. The first time, just like another reviewer mentioned, the motor that slowly spins the mirror ball quit after running only a few minutes. I got the impression that since it is battery-powered it was simply not strong enough to keep turning under the weight of the mirror ball, which is quite heavy. So the motor seemed to be overtaxed and sluggish. It would cut out and then start up again after a rest, then cut out again. I tried 3 different batteries (it takes a large "D" battery) and it still would not work properly. I will say that the mirror ball and the pin spot appear to be of excellent quality, however.
With the second one the motor would not stop when the switch was turned to the "off" position. I didn't even bother to mount the ball to see if it would keep turning without cutting out but my guess is it probably would have done the same thing as the first one.
The motor/pedestal does not come with instructions to show you how to correctly mount the ball or offer any care and cleaning recommendations. When I called the 800 support number for help, the young man who answered the phone was utterly clueless. I honestly felt I had reached the wrong number, the guy seemed so disoriented and had nothing to offer in the way of help, assurances, information, etc. Duhhhhhhh.......
Finally, I have to commend Amazon for their exceptional service in processing the return of both items. They actually make it a pleasure. I love Amazon.com!
Although the experience was a disappointing one, I guess it was a learning experience. The $30 price tag did indeed seem low considering that you get a very fine looking mirror ball and what seems to be a rather heavy-duty plug-in pin spot with 4 color lenses (the pin spot does come with instructions, by the way.) If not for the lack of instructions for the pedestal and the lousy motor (manufactured in People's Republic of China) this would have been a winner and I would have been happy paying twice the price.

This was THE HIT of our Halloween party! We had been thinking it might be "kind of" fun to have a disco ball for the kids' parties or get-togethers, and we finally decided to get one in case it rained on the night of our Halloween party and guests couldn't get outside. We thought it MIGHT encourage more people to dance. WHO KNEW!?! Disco balls are like magnets, apparently. Our dining room/dance floor was full of adults AND kids, all playing with the sparkling lights on the floor and walls. My kids wanted to leave it up for days afterwards, and we ended up having (very silly) family "dance-offs" for a few nights before finally packing up the ball, light and filters. Barely a day has gone by that my kids haven't asked to get it out again, and my 8 year old son is dying to get it back up for his upcoming birthday.
Specifics- it was ready to go right out of the packaging. We just hung it on an existing hook, set up the spot light, and it was ready to go! It comes with several different filters to go over the white light, and we spent a bit of time deciding which was "spookiest" for the Halloween party (blue, by the way). The quality is excellent for the price, though we did save all the original packing to store it in between uses because it probably would get banged up pretty easily if stored in anything else.

Nice ball great price, needs extra light if possible, but the one that comes with it will work for small to mid size rooms.

Product was great for the price. Had gotten a second one shipped cuz of the first had motor malfunction.But got the second one and turned it on for an after party. Made the room much more exiting

I got this for a party and tested it out and it worked fine. Then the day of the party I noticed it ran for about 5 minutes then stopped spinning. If I shook it and toggled the switch a few times it would start going again. Yeah, that's really a fun thing to do during a party. I tried everything to fix it. I tried 3 different new batteries. I opened it up and reconnected all the wires. I sprayed it with WD40. I tried it both upside down and on the stand. I never could get it to go for more than 5 minutes. Don't waste your time on this piece of junk.
